Brief Research Description
Irene Lo Cigno, PhD, is a virologist at the Molecular Virology Laboratory of UPO. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying human papillomavirus (HPV)-driven cancer, including dampening of the innate immune response in infected/transformed epithelial cells. Specifically, she is involved in the two following research projects: i) Dissecting the role of the cellular deacetylase SIRT1 in HPV-driven cancer and the possibility to inhibit SIRT1 activity as a viable strategy against this type of cancer; ii) Understanding the use of the RIG-I agonist M8 against HPV-associated cancers.
