GARIGLIO Marisa
Research Activity
Brief Research Description
Her laboratory has interests in the pathogenesis, molecular genetics, and biochemistry of human papillomaviruses (HPV) and polyomaviruses (HPyV). Her current research interests include: i) the crosstalk between innate immunity and high-risk HPVs and the potential anticancer activity of RIG-I targeting; and ii) the role of the cellular deacetylase SIRT1 in HPV-driven carcinogenesis and the possibility to inhibit SIRT1 activity as a viable strategy against this type of cancer. Her laboratory is also involved in another project, whose lead coordinator is Prof. Cinzia Borgogna, that aims to understand the role of the viral sensor and restriction factor IFI16 during coronavirus infection. In collaboration with Prof. Marco De Andrea, she is studying the role of cytomegalovirus as “age distorter” focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying virus-induced senescence and paracrine senescence upon infection.
