Research Activity
Brief Research Description
Marco De Andrea, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology at the University of Turin (Medical School, Italy), and Head of the Intrinsic Immunity Unit in the Center for Translational Research in Autoimmune and Allergic Diseases (CAAD Center, Novara Medical School, Italy). He is also member of the Scientific Board of the MicrobiotaMi association, and Founder of NoToVir srls, a biotech start-up active in the field of medical biotechnology. With an extensive background in basic and applied virology, pathology, molecular biology, animal models of infection, his research activity is currently focused on the role of the viral-induced post-translational modification citrullination as target for the development of innovative host-targeting antiviral drugs. Moreover, using cytomegalovirus as a model of infection, he is currently involved in projects addressed to unveil the relationship between viral infections and the induction of cellular senescence programs in both infected and bystander uninfected cells.
