Research Activity
Brief Research Description
Works on neurodegenerative diseases with a translational approach, mainly focusing on disease biomarkers
Main areas of investigation:
1. The role of immunity in neurodegenerative diseases: Parkinson’s disease (PD), Alzheimer’s disease (AD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
Search for modifications in the immune system, both at a peripheral (blood) and central (cerebrospinal fluid) levels, in Patients with neurodegenerative diseases. Immunophenotyping with cytofluorimetry and detection of pro/anti‐inflammatory cytokine production. Role of the intestinal immunity.
2. Genetics of neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases
Study of the influence exerted by gene variations on disease onset and progression in the following conditions:
Multiple sclerosis (MS) and inflammatory neuropathies (GBS-CIDP)
PD and atypical parkinsonisms
AD, FTD and ALS
3. Neurodegenerative disease proteomics
Identification of the different proteomic profiles expressed by PD patients compared to atypical
parkinsonisms and controls. Differences in proteomic profiles of drug‐naive versus treated
PD patients
