Brief Research Description

Main research interests:

• Pathogenesis of Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA), a rare erythroid aplasia caused by mutations in ribosomal protein genes: investigation of the molecular and cellular alterations resulting from the genetic defect and search for new therapeutic approaches

• Mechanisms underpinning cancer predisposition in DBA and other inherited ribosomopathies, i.e. pathologies characterized by impaired ribosome biogenesis or function

• Interaction among microbiota, obesity and colon cancer: analysis of the role of gut bacteria in colon carcinogenesis

• Genetic factors that predispose to colorectal cancer

• Genetic factors that predispose to the development of pleural mesothelioma in patients exposed to asbestos.
