Brief Research Description

Professor De Cillà's research contributions span various aspects of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal diseases in general. His work in glaucoma focuses on understanding factors useful in determining success following glaucoma surgical procedures and identifying prognostic indicators for patient stratification based on their risk of slow/fast progression. In retinal diseases like diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration, he explores advanced non-invasive retinal imaging for early detection of microvascular and neural changes, in order to better understand the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying these conditions and their progression. Collaborating with the Physiology Laboratory directed by Professor Grossini, he also delves into basic research to complement clinical insights. Additionally, his interest in surgical retina involves investigating different techniques of retinal repair after retinal detachment and the use of vital dyes in vitreomacular surgery to enhance precision and minimize retinal toxicity.
